When Death Row Records was established, the first star they built was Snoop Dogg, who had immediate chemistry with Dr. Dre. Decades after the Death Row years, Snoop Dogg remains close to Dr. Dre. However, when Dr. Dre left Death Row, when things became outrageous, Snoop Dogg was a little disappointed.
The early years at Death Row were filled with prosperity, as Snoop Dogg rose from the streets of Long Beach to rap superstardom. Soon, though, things grew violent as rap wars became physical, leading to gun violence. Snoop Dogg began searching for a new label when his contract with Death Row expired.
Coming as a shock to many and adding credibility to Master P’s label, Snoop Dogg signed to No Limit Records. After a few years and three albums on No Limit Records, Snoop Dogg described his time as “servitude.” But, during his time with Master P, Snoop Dogg said he learned the record business for him, fully focusing on his own record label and now holding an executive position. Looking back on his No Limit days with Mystikal at the AllHipHop.com showcase at SXSW, Snoop Dogg revealed the part Mystikal played in the deal.
