Solange Knowles honored as trailblazer by The Brooklyn Academy of Music

Solange receives honors at Brooklyn Academy of Music

A groundbreaking artist receives a special award for her multiple contribution to music. Recently, Solange Knowles was awarded with honors at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The New York institution highlights their programming every Spring with an Annual Spring Benefit. This year, Solange along with arts producer and advocate Mikki Shepard are among the honored.

Solange’s career has evolved from subtly releasing music to creating entire musical productions. Although she began releasing music in 2002, her 2016 third studio album A Seat at the Table solidified her artistry. As her first number one Billboard album, the leading single “Cranes in the Sky” earned Solange a Grammy Award. Aside from music, she’s also a leading figure in the performing arts. As a director and composer, she’s created multiple performance art pieces including Witness! at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg Germany. In 2019 she directed and composed the art and music performance in Post Pupils and Venice Art Biennale in Venice, Italy.

Recently Solange curated the sold-out Eldorado Ballroom musical series last Spring for The Brooklyn Academy of Music. That achievement along with her other contributions, prompted the institution to show their gratitude. Guests dined on stage alongside the honoree’s during the  ceremony
