Spenzo says he does not receive royalties from music

One of the scariest parts of becoming a music artist is understanding the business ethics of the industry. Chicago artist Spenzo shared with fans an unexpected truth behind his music. In an interview with Chicago’s Illanoize Radio show, he was asked about his viral single “Wife Er,” which hit airwaves in 2013. Spenzo responded stating he does not receive any royalties from the hit song.

In the mid 2000’s, the Chicago music scene created an uprise throughout music. In addition to the increase of Drill artist, more dance records came from the Midwest during this time. Spenzo was one artist who created a simple freestyle that turned into a Chicago anthem. However, the single “Wife Er,” featured an instrumental beat that belonged to Chicago producer Young Chop. Due to the beat not belonging to Spenzo, he was unable to receive any profit from it. Although he’s worked with Drake, Lil Wayne, Young Thug and King Louie, “Wife Er,” is still a top hit for the artist.

Despite the legal difficulties, Spenzo is confident he will be able to work something out in the future. In the interview, he continued speaking on making money and creating more music.
