Empire season 2, episode 5 spoilers.
Season two of “Empire” is filled with ups and downs, with the ratings being higher than every other show, but down from previous weeks. In the story, there are also ups and downs. Just as the family seemed to be getting closer, they were soon at odds, again.
Last week, Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) went as far as to say the Lyon family was never a real family anyway. Obviously, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) hopes to change this. With Andre (Trai Byers) finding God and going to church, she has the whole family going.
The setting for this week’s “Empire” episode is church, with Cookie being shown sitting with Hakeem and Jamal (Jussie Smollett). Even the hilariously treacherous, Lucious (Terrence Howard) was seen standing outside the church. Lucious and Cookie set aside their differences to promote Hakeem and Jamal’s new single
Cooke and Anika (Grace Gealey) join forces to go against Lucious and Empire once again, teaming up with a man named Laz (Adam Rodriguez)

Jamal begins working with Ne-Yo on some new music
Andre begins to feel the full guilt for all of his actions and goes back to church to rid himself of past sins
Andre gets baptized to cleanse his soul and his conscience
Lucious’ top goal is to end Cookie’s Lyon Dynasty
Lucious is unable to watch Andre’s baptism due to being traumatized as a child with his mother (Kelly Rowland), shown in flashback
