Spotify To Honor Juneteenth By Only Featuring Black Artists on Their New Music Friday Playlist

People all over America continue to protest racism and police brutality in the aftermath of the murders by George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. More celebrities have also been marching with protestors and also using their social media platforms to shed light on these issues.

Spotify is now paying homage to black artists in the music industry as on Juneteenth, (June 19) they will only feature black artists on their New Music Friday playlist, according to Chart Data. Juneteenth marked the official end of slavery in June of 1865 when the last slaves were notified in Texas. Union General Gordon Granger led federal troops to Galveston,  to announce that the Civil War had ended as well.

This was a very nice move by Spotify. It will be interesting to see which artists are placed onto this playlist. Other streaming services such as Apple Music and TIDAL should honor Juneteenth in this kind of fashion as well.
