On Saturday night, Goldsboro police responded to a call about a stolen ambulance from UNC Health Wayne on Wayne Memorial Drive. The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. Thus, triggering a rapid police response to locate the missing emergency vehicle.

Officers quickly found the stolen ambulance on Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Road. The suspect, identified as Raul Sandoval-Moore, 23, maneuvered the ambulance back into the hospital’s parking lot. In a shocking turn of events, he deliberately collided with an occupied police car.

According to the Goldsboro Police Department, Sandoval-Moore faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. He is also charged with careless and reckless driving, driving while license revoked, exceeding the posted speed limit, and failure to maintain lane control.

The bizarre sequence of events began when the ambulance, part of UNC Health Wayne’s fleet, was reported stolen. Responding swiftly, officers tracked the vehicle down in the vicinity of Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Road. Instead of surrendering, Sandoval-Moore returned to the hospital grounds and aimed the ambulance at a police vehicle, causing a collision.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported from the crash. However, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of emergency responders and the increasing audacity of suspects in vehicle theft cases.
