Hip hop has always had an interesting relationship with the N-word, including a renaming and appropriating of the word. Still, this was not enough and activists once banned together to kill the phrase. Not good enough, as hip hop has continued to carry the word around.
Enter Suge Knight, who ran Death Row Records during the height of the gangsta rap era. Among other vulgar phrases, the Death Row artists, which included Snoop Dogg and Tupac, used the N-word. But, it’s been almost twenty years since that era and a lot has changed.
Suge Knight is hardly viewed as an imposing figure in the game anymore. In fact, he lost control of Death Row Records five years ago. Since then, Suge Knight has become an interview favorite of TMZ and he often has odd conversations with them. In their latest conversation, Suge Knight spoke about the N-Word, being called an African-American, and much more.
