Nipsey Hussle’s memorial service at STAPLES Center was a beautiful one on Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles. His family members spoke on his legacy along with close friends of his in the industry such as YG and Snoop Dogg. We also received performances from Jhene Aiko, Anthony Hamilton, Marsha Ambrosius, and the legendary Stevie Wonder.
Suge Knight is also a Los Angeles native who made history in the 90s with Death Row Records by signing artists such as 2Pac, Snoop, and Dr. Dre. Knight is now in prison for 28 years after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Terry Carter and also injuring Cle “Sloan” Bone on the set of ‘Straight Outta Compton‘ in 2015. TMZ recently spoke to Knight and he had an interesting take on what played a part in Nipsey’s murder.
Knight feels that just like himself, he said that rappers are too loyal to their neighborhoods.
“A lot of artists like Nipsey have the same problem that I had. We are too loyal to our neighborhood,” said Knight. “Even though you have enough money to move, you want to stay on the block because “when you go around Hollywood it’s all watered down.”
Knight needs to realize when it comes to Nipsey, he wasn’t just chillin’ in his hood and proving that he didn’t go Hollywood. He was actually giving back to the LA community. He helped felons who had trouble getting jobs get employed, invested in businesses, established “Destination Crenshaw” which is an art space honoring Los Angeles’ black heritage opening in 2020, and preached financial literacy.
