SZA’s “Shirt” singles reaches platinum eligibility
SZA has been winning big over the past month, with her new “SOS” single. This sophomore album was released on December 9, and has since been at number one in the US, for five straight weeks. It is also expected to reach a sixth consecutive week, with over 120,000 additional units being sold. 23 songs are on SOS, the initial lead singles were “Shirt,” “Good Days” and “I Hate U.” SOS was also SZA’s first project since 2017’s “Ctrl.”
Shirt was released last fall, as this was a record that fans wanted from SZA, since 2021. The video for it was also released, as it exceeded expectations. SZA initially posted Shirt on Soundcloud, in January of 2021, and began to gain a lot of momentum, shortly after. It was released over a year and a half later, but still did very well on streaming platforms.
Now, Shirt has reached another huge milestone. According to Chart Data, it has now sold over 1 million units in the US. This makes it eligible for platinum certification, by the RIAA. SZA also performed Shirt on “Saturday Night Live,” last month, as that was when she revealed the December 9 release date, for SOS.
