SZA’s “SOS” ties record set by Mariah Carey’s debut album
2023 was a massive year for SZA, as a result of her sophomore album, “SOS.” This project was released in December 2022, as it went on to debut at number one in the US, on the Billboard 200 chart. Moreover, that was her first number one album, and her first project since her 2017 debut album, “Ctrl.” SOS also went on to spend seven straight weeks at number one.
Furthermore, SOS has now reached another major milestone. It now ties Mariah Carey’s 1990 debut self-titled album as the longest running top 10 album by a Black woman on the Billboard 200 chart. This is currently at 49 weeks.
SZA’s SOS album initially contained 23 songs, including hits such as “Snooze,” and the Billboard Hot 1oo chart-topping “Kill Bill.” She also collaborated with Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. This album also contributed to SZA being nominated for 15 Grammys next month, which is the most for any artist in 2024. It’s nominated for Best Album. Other nominations for SZA include Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song, Best Record, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and much more.
