Jeezy & Gucci Mane have had the longest beef in hip-hop as they haven’t seen eye to eye since 2005. Ownership of their classic “Icy” record featuring Boo Rossini was an issue as it ultimately ended up on Gucci’s debut studio album, ‘Trap House.’ This escalated quickly as Jeezy got someone to set Gucci up by trying to shoot him but this resulted in Gucci shooting the man and burying him.
Gucci & Jeezy have come close to burying their beef on a few occasions according to Gucci’s autobiography but things never reached the peace treaty. Gucci going to jail constantly also posed a problem with communication.
T.I. brought Jeezy on his ‘expediTIously’ podcast today and the topic of Gucci was brought up and if the two could sit down and hash things out.
“We can’t have that conversation without addressing the elephant in the room,” said T.I. “There’s a third member of the Mount Rushmore of Trap Music, that neither one of us care to mention or speak to that much. Now, what do you think is necessary to bring that shit together, if anything? And I understand we’re dealing with somebody who’s temperamental themselves, and our shit we got with us vs. their shit they got with them makes it extremely problematic. But in the best-case scenario, how could that shit happen? Because to be honest, that’s the biggest move that could happen for trap music in the future.”
Jeezy replied that this beef has lasted decades now and that he snd Gucci would have to have a “mafia conversation.”
“I just think it gotta be one of them mafia backroom conversations,” replied Jeezy. “It gotta really be a convo. What I learned over the years is that this shit is big business. People that went to Yale still do business with people who went to Harvard. It just one of them real convos. It’s been decades.”
Tip also mentioned how he believed that Gucci wasn’t rocking with him that way because he was friends with Jeezy. He never discredited what Gucci has contributed to the trap music genre though as he’s honored him in his Trap Music Museum in Atlanta.
Jeezy did explain though how he and Gucci almost squashed their beef at a sushi bar. They had a conversation but things didn’t move further due to Gucci’s constant legal issues.
“To keep it all the way honest, me and bro done sat in a room and had a real conversation,” said Jeezy. “In a sushi joint. It was close. I can’t lie, it was close, but he got locked up around that time and communication went dark. Im’a keep it a buck, it was close. It was real close.”
Hopefully, Gucci & Jeezy are able to get to the point where they can make music together again. It’s definitely been too long. They are legends in hip-hop and It’s a shame that their situation unfolded the way it did. This may not be repairable though due to the situation being deeper than rap.
