Commercially, T.I. has nothing to prove, he has already topped every chart and was top five for a decade. Being one of the biggest figures in the game for so long, T.I. was bound to see a decline. Now, T.I. is in it solely for creative purposes.

In 2008, Kanye West was one year removed from the worst time in his life, when his mother died. This compelled him to record, arguably, the best album of his career, 808s & Heartbreak. The album was raw emotion spilled out via auto-tune.

Going into his next album, T.I. is on a new creative level. Of course, he rocked the house at Jay Z’s TIDAL X: 10/20 with many of his older hits. But, T.I. is preparing his next album and he tells MTV it is pretty much his version of 808s & Heartbreak, meaning a major creative shift.
