Taraji P. Henson brought new energy to primetime, when she did “Empire.” Her portrayal of Cookie, for five years, revitalized primetime. Every week, people wanted to see what Cookie and Terrence Howard’s character, Lucious, had going on. Together, they became the biggest names in hip hop, with their hip hop-themed show. Only three years after “Empire” ended, Taraji is now contemplating retiring from acting. She broke down crying while explaining that it’s over the pay.

Taraji P. Henson also brought new life into her own career, via “Empire.” The show was a massive ratings success. As a result, Henson was able to land her own movie deals, which opened the doors for her to do movies. Not only was she starring in those movies, but also, Henson was credited as the producer of these films. On the outside looking in, it looked like she was receiving bigger checks for these movies. Apparently, this simply wasn’t the case.

Taraji P. Henson recently did an interview on Sirius XM, discussing Black actors and actresses’ pay. In this interview, she broke down and started to cry. This was her venting her frustration about how little actresses of color get paid. As a result, Henson said she is strongly considering retiring from even doing acting. All of this comes down to what she feels is a lack of respect towards the actresses who happen to be Black, and do Black content.
