An 18-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attacking McDonald’s employees in Minnesota. He did so with a chemical irritant. The Burnsville Police Department reported that on February 20, employees were assaulted by a customer wielding bear mace. As a result, the case remains active. However, few details have been released. But police spokesperson Matt Smith confirmed that the workers experienced burning sensations in their eyes, nose, and mouth.
The suspect was identified as Lazell Cook of Minneapolis. So, he was located and arrested by the Brooklyn Park Police Department on Tuesday morning. He was subsequently booked into the Dakota County Jail. Court records show that Cook has been charged with three counts of fifth-degree assault and possession of tear gas by a prohibited person.
In response to the incident, McDonald’s owner/operator Valerie Johnson emphasized the company’s commitment to employee safety. “The safety and security of our employees is of utmost importance to us. We are thankful nobody was seriously injured and for local law enforcement’s swift response,” Johnson said in a statement to KSTP.
The incident underscores the potential dangers faced by service industry workers and highlights the importance of ensuring their safety. As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the unsettling nature of the attack and the swift justice brought against the perpetrator.
