Teen fatally shot near Soho hotel, may involve school dispute

Tragedy struck in Soho, New York, when a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot. It happened outside the upscale Dominick Hotel on Spring Street, near Chelsea Career and Technical Education High School. The incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Thus, sparking immediate alarm in the bustling area.

Law enforcement sources suggest the shooting may have been school-related. Perhaps, originating from a dispute earlier in the day. The teen is a student at Broome Street Academy Charter High School. He suffered a critical head wound and two additional injuries to his leg before collapsing in a nearby alley. As a result, he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The scene described by local security guard Justo Cruz mirrored a chaotic movie set, with emergency vehicles swarming the location. “It was sickening,” Cruz recounted. Thus, emphasizing the shock of witnessing such a scene in what is typically considered a safe and vibrant neighborhood.

Details about the gunman, who reportedly fled on a Citi Bike, remain scarce. Not only has the attack has shaken the community, but also highlighted the unexpected nature of violence in seemingly peaceful settings.

This horrifying event was part of a distressing day in New York City, which saw multiple violent incidents involving teenagers. These included a slashing on an MTA bus in the Bronx and a double stabbing in Brooklyn. Both incidents were involving 15-year-old victims.

As the community reels from these events, the police continue their investigation, seeking to understand the motives behind these attacks and to apprehend those responsible.
