Teens steal $63K in designer bags from Saks in bold daylight heist

Lower Merion police are on the hunt for a group of teenage suspects. Reportedly, they executed a daring daylight theft. As a result, making off with $63,000 worth of designer handbags from Saks Fifth Avenue in Bala Cynwyd.

The brazen heist took place on Saturday around 2 p.m. Four individuals stormed the high-end handbag section. Thus, swiftly grabbing approximately 15 bags within a mere 25 seconds before fleeing the store.

According to Lower Merion Police Lt. James Baitinger, the suspects displayed aggressive behavior and were armed.

“When loss prevention started confronting them, there was an indication there was a knife involved by one of the suspects,” he reported.

A 17-year-old female was apprehended at the scene and is now facing felony theft charges. However, police are still searching for three accomplices who managed to escape.

The suspects fled in a black Dodge Durango, which was later linked to a similar theft in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 4. The police released an image of the vehicle and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The incident has left shoppers and local residents shocked. “It’s surprising to hear here at this location. Never experienced anything like it,” said Jeisy Rodriguez of Haverford Township. Eric Blackwell of Woodbury, New Jersey, added, “I think we need to give kids something better to do, versus stealing and sitting outside doing negative stuff that’s hurting the community.”

Police are reviewing in-store surveillance footage to identify the remaining suspects. In the meantime, Saks Fifth Avenue has increased security to prevent future incidents.
