Eight high school students in Texas were hospitalized, after being made to do 400 pushups without water, as a punishment

Texas high school students hospitalized after doing 400 pushups

In Texas, there is a high school football coach that has come under fire. In addition to being the school’s football coach, the man is also a physical education instructor. When his students refused to cooperate, he placed them under punishment. Since he teaches PE, the coach decided to make the young men do pushups as their punishment. He had them doing 300 to 400 pushups with no breaks and no water. As a result, some of the students had to go to the hospital.

Now, the coach, whose name is John Harrell, is placed under administrative leave. One woman, a mother, says her son suffers from rhabdomyolysis. This disease causes a breakdown of muscle tissue, which sends damaging proteins into the bloodstream. If this happens, it can cause kidney failure. Her son was among the young men sent to the hospital. This mother is the one who accused Harrell of not allowing the children to have water, while they did pushups.

While John Harrell is out on administrative leave, his players are speaking up for him. One student said that Harrell has treated them with nothing but respect. The same student went onto say that Harrell went with the students to the hospital. Meanwhile, there are seven other students who ended up going to the hospital. In addition, the school has launched a third party investigation into John Harrell, and what happened that day.
