Yesterday, Megan Thee Stallion took to Instagram Live to voice her frustrations with Houston-based record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. She signed with them when she was 20 as she now says they won’t let her release any new music. She’s 25 now added that at the time of the signing, she didn’t understand the terminology of the contract. 1501 has since refused to renegotiate the paperwork.
Megan is now taking matters into her hands legally as according to TMZ, she filed a lawsuit against the label and founder/ex-MLB All-Star, Carl Crawford, today. A district judge in Harris County Texas granted Megan a temporary restraining order which will allow her to release new music. She plans to do so this upcoming Friday.
Megan mentioned in the lawsuit that 1501 gets 60% of the revenue she generates from music and she gets 40%. The problem here though is that she also has to compensate engineers, mixing for songs, and artists that she gets on features. She added that 1501 gets paid more from her concerts than her.
The Houston rapper also believes that Crawford uses his relationship with J Prince to scare off people. Yesterday on Instagram, Crawford posted a photo with Prince on Instagram and praised him as there’s no loyalty these days. He also used the #Paybacksabitch hashtag. In the lawsuit, Megan stated that “Prince is notorious in the industry for strong-armed intimidation tactics, and the comment was taken as a physical threat of harm.”
Megan also believes that Crawford leaked the story about her 2015 mugshot and the backstory of the incident between her and her boyfriend at the time. One of the worst parts of her initially signing with 1501 is that she only received $10,000 in upfront money.
Megan is seeking $1 million from Crawford and 1501 in damages. As part of the restraining order, Crawford and the label cannot bash her online. Check out her original IG Live rant against Crawford and 1501 below.
