The Academy starts “formal review” of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, at the Oscars

The Academy will conduct review into Will Smith slap incident

Last night, Will Smith created one of the biggest viral moments in television history. This was when the actor slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars, after calling his wife Jada Pinkett “GI Jane.” This was in reference to Jada having a bald head, due to her loss condition.

When Smith got back to his seat, he told Rock “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth.” This is all while Rock tried to play the situation off. He has also since declined to file a police report against Smith.

The Academy has since condemned violence being committed, at their awards. Now, they are opening a “formal review” into the incident, according to TMZ.

“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”

There is speculation that Smith could lose the Oscar that he won at the end of the night, for Best Actor. This was for his role in “King Richard,” here he was Venus and Serena Williams’ father. He also apologized for his earlier actions, and hopes that The Academy invites him back, in the future.
