The-Dream accused of rape and sexual battery by former protégée

Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, better known as The-Dream, has been accused of rape and sexual battery by his former artist, Chanaaz Mangroe. In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Mangroe alleges that the renowned songwriter and producer used promises to promote her career to entangle her in an abusive relationship from 2015 to 2016.

The suit claims that Gesteelde-Diamant repeatedly forced Mangroe into unwanted sexual encounters. In addition, claiming he strangled her during one encounter. Also, she claims he once made a video recording of an intimate encounter which he threatened to show others if she didn’t comply with his demands. As a result of the alleged abuse, Mangroe is seeking damages for emotional distress as well as punitive damages against Gesteelde-Diamant for violating California’s sex trafficking laws.

Gesteelde-Diamant has denied the accusations through his representative who stated: “These claims are untrue and defamatory… I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals.” Despite this denial however it remains unclear how these latest allegations will affect both Terius Gesteelde-Diamant’s personal life or professional collaborations with artists such as Beyoncé whom he helped write some of her biggest hits including “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and “Break My Soul.”
