Established in New York City in 1892 by Arthur B. Tunure, the unique, compelling publication started out as a weekly newspaper based in NYC. Over 100 years later and boasting 23 international more editions, Vogue magazine made a strong staple in the industry as it became one of the most influential American fashion and lifestyle magazines to date. Fashionistas, models, and beauty influencers all across the world dream of gracing the cover of Vogue magazine some day.
Today they are making it happen — sort of, anyway.
The challenge began on TikTok and has now made its way to Twitter, as the challenge is essentially creating a video or photo of you looking as if you’re on the cover of Vogue magazine. It’s a vibe, as creators are creating.
It is truly beautiful to see, as people are uploading incredible photos into a cropped background that gives the illusion of the cover of Vogue magazine. Back in the late 90’s, Naomi Campbell was the very first African American model to bless the magazine’s cover, paving the way for many more to follow including Beyonce, Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Serena Williams, and Jourdan Dunn. The majority of the #VogueChallenge submissions genuinely look like magazine covers, as some dreamers caption “Manifesting” while others use the art creation for sharing diversity and their own individual stories.
