The Weeknd Inches Closer To Diamond Certification With 2019 Smash Hit Single, “Blinding Lights”

The Weeknd has been one of the most dominant artists in the world over the past decade. He really started to have a strong hold on the industry at the end of 2019, though. This came with the release of his “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” singles. Each hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Both Blinding Lights and Heartless appeared on the Toronto superstar’s fourth studio album in March 2020. That album topped the charts, and Blinding Lights was the record that really took over the year.
Weeknd went on to perform this single at the Super Bowl this past February, in Tampa. Now, it has hit another impressive mark. According to Chart Data, it has now sold 9 million units in the US. This now makes it eligible for 9x platinum status in the US.
One more platinum certification will put Blinding Lights at diamond. This would be The Weeknd’s first ever diamond record.
