The Weeknd Partners With World Food Program USA To Donate $1 Million To Ethiopian Citizens That Provides 2 Million Meals Amid Military Conflict in The Country

The Weeknd continues to some very great humanitarian work as this time, it involves Ethiopia. The country is going through a very tough time right now in regards to a military conflict where Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, ordered an attack on the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. Ahmed says Tigray attacked a military base and also stole a myriad of weapons and artillery.
According to TMZ, The Weeknd is partnering with World Food Program USA in order to send $1 million to Ethiopian citizens during this time. This will be able to provide them with 2 million meals. Many don’t have the essentials needed to provide for themselves during this concerning time in their country and so, this initiative will come through in a major way for them. This conflict has seen people murdered and villages destroyed.
“My heart breaks for my people of Ethiopia as innocent civilians ranging from small children to the elderly are being senselessly murdered and entire villages are being displaced out of fear and destruction,” said The Weeknd on Instagram. “I will be donating $1 million to provide 2 million meals through the United Nations Food Programme and encourage those who can please donate as well.”
In February, The Weeknd partnered with Postmates during Super Bowl week in Tampa. He brought on Black-owned restaurants in the area to deliver meals to front line workers in the area. Weeknd also donated $1 million for COVID-19 relief last year. $500,000 went to MusiCares and the rest went to front line workers of Scarborough Health Network in Canada.
