The Weeknd Won’t Be Planning To Submit His Music To GRAMMYs Anymore After Recent Snub of Zero Nominations

The Weeknd has arguably been the hottest artist in the world over the past year and a half. He’s had two chart-topping single in “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” as well as a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with “After Hours,” in 2020. One surprising moment in 2020 though came at the end of the year when he received zero nominations for the 2021 GRAMMYs.

The GRAMMYs are coming up on March 14 and fans are still shocked that The Weeknd has no nominations after the epic year he had. In a new statement to The New York Times, though, the Canadian superstar still doesn’t seem over the snubs as he will not be submitting his music for Grammy considerations again.

“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys,” said The Weeknd to the NYT.

Back in January though, Weeknd told Billboard that he was over the snubs. He also added how surprised he was that that happened at the time.

“Look, I personally don’t care anymore. I have three Grammys, which mean nothing to me now, obviously. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I want the Grammy!’ It’s just that this happened, and I’m down to get in front of the fire, as long as it never happens again. I suck at giving speeches anyways. Forget awards shows.”

At the time of the snubs in late November, Weeknd took to Twitter to blast the committee. There he claimed that the awards show is “corrupt” and that he and his fans deserve transparency. This also comes after Weeknd received even more platinum plaques by the RIAA. Among them are “Blinding Lights” going 7x platinum, Heartless going 2x platinum, and the self-titled “After Hours” song going platinum for the first time. Blinding Lights also recently went diamond in his home country of Canada. It’s also spent over a year now in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Weeknd is also fresh off a historic performance at Super Bowl LV. He headlined the halftime show as it also created plenty of viral memes such as when he was seen running through a room of mirrors. He performed his greatest hits as well as Blinding Lights was used heavily to promote the performance.
