In the eyes of many, Wale is a new artist, as he has received his first taste of true stardom over the past year with Maybach Music. However, there are many hardcore Wale fans who have watched him rise from the Washington, DC streets to become the star he currently is. There was a pit-stop on this ride, which landed him with MMG, though.

Wale was signed by Interscope Records in 2008 and he released his Attention Deficit album during the fall of 2009. While he was considered one of the more lyrical rappers in the game, his album was a commercial and critical failure. An overall consensus was reached about Wale’s debut album, with fans and critics agreeing his project was not properly handled.

Following a lackluster debut, Wale virtually disappeared in 2010. A chance meeting with Rick Ross at a club in Miami would change Wale’s life, however. After talking with Rick Ross, the popular rapper announced Wale might sign with his Maybach Music label. In the opening days of 2011, Wale made the deal official, signing with MMG.

Things have drastically changed for Wale, as he has released several hit singles. Now, Wale is still considered one of the most-lyrical rappers in the game, along with being extremely popular. MTV News noticed this when they gave him the number ten spot on their annual “Hottest MCs in the Game” series. Recently, the editor of AOL’s TheBoombox.com, Georgette Cline, discussed this during her interview with MTV News about their countdown and the number ten feature.
