The Will Smith slap on Chris Rock has arguably been the biggest viral moment, in 2022. Rock hosted the Oscars, and made a “GI Jane” joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett. This was due to her bald head, as Rock is rumored to not have known about her hair loss condition.

Will Smith went on to apologize to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as well as Chris Rock, in a statement. The “King Richard” actor also went on to resign from The Academy, on Friday.

“I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home.”

Chris Rock had his first show since then, in Boston, earlier this week. He revealed that he’s still processing what happened, and will discuss it more, later on. Chris brother, Tony Rock, also recently had a stand-up show, where he stood up for Chris. He made it known that there’s plenty of Rock brothers, and asked Smith why he slapped Chris, over Jada giving him a side eye, for his joke.

“‘Cause if you think you gon’ walk up on this stage this ain’t the motherf*ckin’ Oscars! And if you walk up here you ain’t nominated for nothing but these f*ckin’ hands… I didn’t even want to start the show like that. You gon’ hit my f*ckin’ brother? ‘Cause your b*tch gave you a side eye?”
