Megan Thee Stallion published an op-ed in The New York Times today regarding the importance of protecting black women and also mentioned the Tory Lanez shooting case. She explained it as an act of violence by a man. She added that she was in fact shot twice by him while walking away from the car they were in after a Hollywood Hills party.
Lanez was charged for allegedly shooting Megan last week as he was hit with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and one count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The LA County D.A. also alleges that Lanez “inflicted great bodily injury” to Megan.
Lanez was supposed to be arraigned today as he appeared in L.A. County court via phone, according to TMZ. His attorney, Shawn Holley, ended up requesting a continuance. Therefore, no plea was entered. The judge did have a ruling on hand though and that is a protective order against Lanez.
In this protective order, Lanez, cannot be 100 yards near Megan nor contact her. He must also turn in any firearms he has. Lanez’s bail was $190,000 which he posted at this hearing. If convicted of his charges, Lanez could face 22 years and eight months in prison. At the scene of the shooting, Lanez was charged with a felony in carrying a concealed weapon inside a vehicle.
