On the West Coast, specifically Los Angeles, “187” is a common phrase for murder/homicide. The phrase became known to the hip hop world when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre began using it on their songs. Once the torch was passed down to Game, he also used the “187” phrase in his records.

An heir apparent to Game in Compton is Tyga. Signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money, Tyga has faced criticism over possibly not being from Compton. However, this has done nothing to slow down his popularity. Tyga is currently riding the success of his “187” single with Rick Ross and also released a full mixtape dedicated to the single.

Now, the legendary Big Hutch, who also goes under the pseudonym, Cold 187um, has called Tyga out. Apparently, he has taken offense to Tyga using “187” in his music, which is a phrase he coined. Big Hutch released an official statement about Tyga using “187” along with his brand.

Read Big Hutch’s statement below:

“That name had been relevant for over two decades and now some new young cat comes along and thinks he can just run with it. You can’t just use somebody’s name or brand to glorify your own existence. That’s called ‘biting.’” Big Hutch continued “…what happens when people start referring to him as ‘Tyga 187’ or ‘that is the 187 guy;’ that simply doesn’t sit well with me.”
