Tyler Perry to direct Netflix drama, “Straw,” starring Taraji P Henson

Tyler Perry is set to write and direct the upcoming Netflix movie Straw. It features an ensemble cast led by Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, and Teyana Taylor. The film will follow the journey of a single mother who encounters a series of unfortunate events. Thus, leading her down an unexpected path. According to the logline, “she becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined and finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence.”

In addition to the main stars, the cast includes Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, and Mike Merrill. Perry will produce the film alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland.

Straw is the latest project under Perry’s multi-year, first-look deal with Netflix. The deal allows him to write, direct, and produce features for the streaming giant. Other upcoming projects from Perry and Netflix include The Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington. Also, he’s producing the newly announced drama series “Beauty in Black.”

Perry’s recent works include Mea Culpa with Kelly Rowland, the courtroom thriller A Fall From Grace, the romantic drama, A Jazzman’s Blues, and A Madea Homecoming. The latter of which is the final installment in his popular franchise about the tough-talking grandmother Madea.
