Uncle Murda signs with Epic Records

The first major-label run for Uncle Murda did not go as expected, as he was signed toward the end of the Roc-A-Fella Records’ run. Damon Dash left as he signed with the label and Jay-Z soon established a deal with Live Nation, thus ending Roc-A-Fella as known to the public.

When Jay-Z left Roc-A-Fella Records, the artists signed were either absorbed into Def Jam, or dropped. Uncle Murda was dropped and returned to the mixtape scene on the streets of New York. With no label behind him, Uncle Murda still managed to generate interest.

One of Uncle Murda’s biggest supporters, from the beginning, was DJ Kay Slay. On Twitter, DJ Kay Slay offered congratulations to the former Roc-A-Fella emcee on his new deal with Epic Records. Last fall, the L.A. Reid-operated Epic Records signed Future, the Atlanta sensation behind the “Tony Montana” hit.
