Variety gives the list for 50 greatest hip-hop executives of all time

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, Variety released a unique dedication highlighting the best of the best. In a special edition list released earlier this month, the 50 greatest hip-hop executives of all time were named. Iconic names like Diddy, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Dr.Dre, Eazy -E and Master P were just a few who made the list. Highlighting the various contributions to music, the list honors those who have helped discover some of hip-hop’s biggest stars.

Its no secret the feel and style of hip-hop has changed drastically since the it’s origin in the 1970’s. Starting in the Bronx, often credited as the birthplace of hip-hop, the genre grew into a culture and a lifestyle. Legends like Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, LL Cool J, Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash created the foundation for what we hear in today’s music. Although music artist play a huge part in hip-hop’s longevity, producers and music executives keep the genre alive.Other notable features on the list include Damon Dash, Jermaine Dupri, E-40, Lil Jon and J.Prince. Aside from listing the names, some of the producers have special tributes included, praising their contributions.
