Vic Mensa awards a black bookstore with a year of free rent

A Chicago bookstore just received a gift that will last all year. Rapper Vic Mensa is always finding ways to giveback to those who not only need it, but are so deserving. Recently, Vic Mensa stopped by Da Book Joint to award the business a year’s worth of free rent. Handing over a check of $7,200 to Da Book Joint’s owners, the popular location can continue servicing the Chicagoland area.

Vic Mensa continues to expand on his philanthropy and mission to uplift his community. Creating and launching multiple community outreach efforts like Sleep-out Initiative, Anti-Bait Truck Drives and his Back-to-School Event and peace walk alongside Chance The Rapper. Recently, he teamed up with the cast of Showtimes hit show The Chi during his Feed the Block, Warm the Block Initiative.

Although passionate about all causes for community improvement, this book store holds a special place. Vic Mensa’s cannabis brand 93 Boyz is also behind the Books Before Bars initiative. A program funded through the Cannabis brand that provides a variety of books to the incarcerated. Da Book Joint is located in Chicago’s Boxville neighborhood and is the largest carrier of African American literature throughout Chicagoland.
