Pop Smoke’s debut posthumous studio album, ‘Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon,’ is set to drop on Friday. The lead single is “Make It Rain” feat. Rowdy Rebel, which was released on June 12. The album was initially set to be out on that day but was delayed out of respect to the protests in America which addressed racism and police brutality.
There have been different cover arts used for Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon but now, the final product is here. Pop Smoke’s face is shown on the front. Diamonds and barbed wire were also surrounding him. This was designed by fashion designer and creative, Virgil Abloah, and people are highly disapproving of his efforts.
The fan reaction has been so bad to the point where a petition has now surfaced on Change.org asking for Abloh to make adjustments. The description said “Virgil deadass was wild lazy with Pop Smokes Album cover and he needs to fix it.” The petition has since accumulated over 5,200 signatures so far.
Steven Victor, Smoke’s manager feels the complete opposite of the fans, though. He revealed how Smoke wanted Abloh to handle the cover art and he actually “led the creative” today.
“You were always shootings for the stars and aiming for the moon. everything we talked about is happening, the only thing is you’re not here in the flesh to see it all come together. you wanted Virgil to design your album cover and lead creative.. Virgil designed the album cover and led creative.. we love you and miss you more and more each day.”
With this backlash, don’t be surprised to see Abloh actually decided to change the album’s cover art. This isn’t the first time that Abloh received backlash on social media as he only donated $50 to protestors earlier this month and people online weren’t feeling that at all.
