Wingstop employee fatally shoots manager after being sent home

Police are investigating a tragic shooting at a Wingstop in Irving, Texas. This shooting resulted in the death of a 19-year-old manager, Christopher Govea. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, when police responded to the Wingstop on E. Irving Boulevard. There, Govea was found fatally shot. In addition, another employee was injured.

Authorities say the shooting was triggered by a dispute between Govea and 22-year-old employee Marc Leon. The argument began when Govea sent Leon home early. In response, Leon allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Govea multiple times. A fellow employee was also struck by stray bullets. As a result, suffering injuries to the head and leg.

Leon fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by police within 10 minutes. Officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Leon was a recent hire with less than a month on the job. Now, he faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently awaiting transfer to the Dallas County Jail.

Govea’s family described him as a dedicated worker who juggled two jobs to support his parents. His brother-in-law, Adrian Hernandez, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“He just worked. He just wanted to get his parents to move forward because his dad’s not good in health, and his mom can’t work because she’s taking care of him,” Hernandez said. “So he wanted to get them a house. That’s the only reason why he was working two jobs.”

A memorial now stands in Govea’s family apartment, reflecting the young man’s loving sacrifices and hard work. Hernandez added:

“I just hope the shooter repents for what he did and actually thinks about what he did. He took someone’s son, someone’s uncle, someone’s brother.”

The Irving community mourns the loss of a young life cut short by senseless violence, as the investigation continues.
