Sadly, people will do almost anything to be perceived a certain way. As a result, people end up in precarious situations, that spark controversy. Last April, a man wanted to sell his 2006 BMW. When he listed it on Facebook Marketplace, a woman agreed to buy it. With the price being $1,700, one would honestly question why the woman even wanted the car. After meeting with the woman and selling her the car, the seller learned the woman paid him with fake money.

Scamming has existed since the beginning of time. However, the internet has given people a new method of ripping people off. Facebook Marketplace and other platforms that allow people to meet in person to exchange money have led to dangerous situations. In this case, the man selling his BMW met with the woman at a Memphis Save-A-Lot parking lot. Even this situation was dangerous, as the man exchanged the car for fake money.

After completing the transaction, the man attempted to deposit the money in the bank. When he tried to complete the deposit, the bank informed him that the money was fake. It turns out, the woman used motion picture money to pay the man for his BMW. As a result, the man attempted to call her, to no avail. Once he involved the Memphis police, they were able to trace her phone number, and find her. She was identified in a lineup and arrested for using counterfeit cash to buy the man’s BMW.
