Michigan woman arrested for catfishing and harassing her own daughter for a year; Woman even worked with the school to find out who was behind this

Woman arrested for catfishing and harassing her own daughter

Early last year, a teenage girl and her boyfriend began receiving harassing messages on social media. As any child would do, the girl and her boyfriend turned to the adults in their lives for help. The bully was sending them all kinds of harassing messages via text messages and on social media. However, the person was able to remain antonymous. Fast forward a year and some months later, the girl’s mother was arrested for being the cyberbully.

It was early 2021, when the harassment began, according to the family of the teens. At the time, the girl’s mother was actually working at the girl’s high school. She was employed as a girl’s basketball coach, until the end of the year. Due to a change in coaching staff, the mother was asked to step down from her position. In December 2021, the official complaint about the harassment was made. At that point, both the teen girl’s mother and her boyfriend’s mother got involved, in hopes of finding the culprit.

Law enforcement got involved in the investigation, in January 2022. During this time, evidence began to point towards the teenage girl’s mother. As a result, law enforcement began to believe that the mother was actually involved. After investigating, they discovered the mother was behind the whole scheme. To make it work, she used VPNs to make it appear she was in different places. Also, she used current teen slang to make it seem like her daughter’s peers were harassing her.

When confronted, the mother confessed, and was arrested. She was released on a $5,000 bond and will stand trial on December 29.
