When hip hop needed new life, Kid Cudi was there with his unusual brand of music, which was exactly what the people needed. Kid Cudi was among the breakout artists of 2009, being met with much critical success. A part of G.O.O.D. Music, it was no surprise his style was so eccentric.

Kid Cudi decided to follow in Kanye West’s genre-bending footsteps, when he announced his third album. Following the release of Man on the Moon II, Kid Cudi said he was planning a rock album with Dot da Genius. Initially, the album was slated for a 2011 release, but was soon met with several delays.

The delays caused tension between Kid Cudi and Universal Records. When the album was finally release, it was undershipped, causing Kid Cudi to publicly call out his record label. One good thing about releasing music online is products are only shipped after purchase, or sent directly online.

A silver lining in the cloud which has surrounded WZRD appeared on the iTunes chart, where the album is number one, ahead of albums from Adele, Kelly Clarkson, and others.
