Recently, YG has been dominating the headlines. Signed to Def Jam, YG is one of the first major artists from the West Coast on the roster. There has been a lot of focus on Los Angeles’ hip hop scene, as several artists from the city have emerged. Along with Game’s comeback, there were strong debuts from Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator.
Clearly, Kendrick Lamar has been the front-runner in the “New West.” Managing to have his buzz last for well over one year, Kendrick Lamar has done well. Now, YG looks as if he will be the next rapper from Los Angeles to take the game over. Recently, YG released hisĀ Just Re’d Up 2 mixtape with DJ Mustard and is working with Young Jeezy on his debut album.
YG and DJ Mustard talked to Sway Calloway for his Shade 45 show, “Sway in the Morning,” where they talked about several topics. DJ Mustard and YG first talked about the Los Angeles lingo and the lifestyle in the city. The conversation soon shifted to Young Jeezy and his “R.I.P.” single, which YG says was originally meant for him.
