For artists who want to go the independent route, they should look no further than the career of Yo Gotti. The popular Memphis rapper released several mixtapes and street albums from 2000 to the present. In the midst of all of this, Yo Gotti has had major offers that he turned down for various reasons.

Yo Gotti got the monkey off his back in 2012 with the Live From The Kitchen album release, but the deal did not work out. Soon, L.A. Reid reached out to Yo Gotti and signed a deal with Epic Records. More of a partnership than a record deal, Yo Gotti has a lot of momentum behind himself this time.

Currently, Yo Gotti is in New York City and he is making his rounds with the media in promotion of I Am. This is his official sophomore album, but well past his tenth overall release. Yo Gotti talked to DJ Zeke for a quick interview about taking advice from T.I. and wanting to work with Kanye West.
