Young Thug’s lawyer jailed for withholding source info in RICO case
During Young Thug’s ongoing RICO trial, a shocking twist took place. Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, was jailed for contempt. This came after refusing to disclose the source of confidential information. Steel, a seasoned defense lawyer, declined to reveal how he obtained details of a private conversation between Judge Ural Glanville, the District Attorney, and key witness Kenneth Copeland.
Steel’s defiance came after he accused prosecutor, Simone Hylton, of coercing Copeland by suggesting he could be held until all defendants’ cases were resolved.
“If true, this amounts to coercion and witness intimidation,” Steel argued.
Thus, emphasizing that such ex parte communications violate constitutional rights.
“You’re not supposed to have communication with a witness who’s been sworn,” Steel told the judge, defending his stance. Judge Glanville, unconvinced, demanded the source, saying, “You got some information you shouldn’t have gotten.”
Steel’s steadfast refusal led to his contempt charge and immediate custody. “You are removing me against his will, my will, and taking away his right to counsel,” Steel declared as he was escorted out.
Legal experts have criticized the judge’s decision, with attorney Phil Holloway calling it a “disgrace.” In addition, accusing Judge Glanville of letting personal pride cloud judicial judgment.
“Judges can’t jail lawyers for doing their job,” Holloway remarked.
As a result, highlighting concerns over judicial overreach and the secrecy of the judge’s meeting with the DA.
