On The Rise: OC Hermo

OC HermoBy Jay Mack
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

There is plenty of talent coming out of the DMV. Some may even say they are driving the music industry, at the moment. With tons of talent coming out, it is hard to track them, but one name to be familiar with is the dude, OC Hermo.

Recently, OC Hermo made a big move in the city and the area with his new release. Teaming up with DJ Money, he released Salute A Shoota, his debut mixtape. The project is getting good feedback and the right people have taken notice.

OC Hermo recently spoke to Hip Hop Vibe in the latest On The Rise segment. During his interview, he spoke on the culture in his area’s hip hop scene. He would go on to speak on how he is making himself stick out at a time when the game is considered saturated.

Read the entire interview below:

Being a native of DC, what can you tell us about the local scene? The local scene is full of talent. I see alot of different acts. Everybody rap now it’s a lot of competition in the city.

What element are you providing to the city with your sound? I’m providing real life situations shit I see everyday and I then been through no fairy tails. Bars, lyrics, cranking beats, catchy hooks. I’m doing me.

Can you explain what sets your style aside from the other rappers in the game? I’m not afraid to do me and say some what I feel I work! Sometimes I freestyle sometimes I write. I can dum it down, I can make club songs, I can tell story’s all that I can get real lyrical.

You recently dropped your mixtape, Salute A Shoota, can you tell us more about that? Salute A Shoota is my first solo mixtape, 18 solid tracks, I’m working with up and coming local producers from my city like Trapstar, Crank shop, kev on the track and a few more. I know alot of people hear the title “Salute A Shoota” and they automatically think Im shooting and killing. The reason I chose that title is because where I come from “The Shoota” simply means the doer, a lot of rappers talk, but few really do. Got my Hard Workin Ent. family on there. I expanded a lot on here, I kind of went a few directions, download it.

What is the relationship like between you and DJ Money, the host of the mixtape? I didn’t get to sit in with him working on the tape, due to him being on the road, but he one of the biggest DJs coming out of the DMV, I fucks with Money, salute DJ Money.

Which tracks are you getting the biggest personal responses to? “Foolery” produced by Crankshop and “Too,” produced by Trapstar.
