Riley 5Rings is going global from the Garden State | HHV On The Rise News
New Jersey’s music scene sometimes becomes overlooked when it comes to the many pockets of talent it has throughout the body of its entire state. Being the closest neighbor to NYC, the eyes on it are definitely split. However, emerging artist Riley 5Rings puts on for his hometown of Orange, NJ to continue proving the great lengths of talent that is actually around. Striking all throughout 2023 with consistent content alongside singles like “Foreign” (Jersey Club Mix) and “Pay Attention“, Riley has made his area and beyond pay attention and glue eyes to him.
Riley 5Rings: Rising rhymer from Jersey

- Being from the Orange, New Jersey area, how was the hip-hop scene for you coming up as a kid? What other cities did you pull music from given how small the town is?
Well for me specifically, music was always around me growing up. So it wasn’t really hard, it was just me trying to find my sound. But you know Jersey is close to pretty much NYC, Philly, etc. but I have also traveled to LA, ATL, and Houston too.
- Additionally, how long have you been creating music and what inspired you to start?
I have been creating music for like 8-10 years, but in the last 3-5 years I have been taking it seriously. And what inspired me to start doing music was my brother. He used to play instruments & make beats in the house. 50 Cent is my greatest inspiration musically as well. He is the goat.
- Would you say growing up in the NJ/NY area helped influence you to step into a creative space? Or did you feel the need to seek inspiration in multiple places?
Yeah Jersey helped, but I also had to seek elsewhere outside of Jersey. For the past year I was in ATL. It’s different out there and I feel like they cater to the music more.
- Furthermore, being from a Haitian background as well, does your culture seep into your music at all? And how important is it to you to represent it in an American market?
Not really. If anything I would say I try to connect to that part of my culture a little more. I’ll go find an old Haitian song, sample it or remake it & give props and credit to the Haitian artist.
The Artistry
- Do you have any artists or other creators that you studied growing up? Or even in the steps leading to your music career?
Yeah there are a lot of artists that I take heed to. J-Liu is an artist from my city, 50 Cent as mentioned, Drake, Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, Future, and even Roddy Ricch to name some.
- Out of curiosity, which one of your releases would you say is your current favorite and what was the inspiration behind it?
I’d say “Foreign” & “Pay Attention”, and the inspiration behind those records was just me being comfortable to try out something new and different both times, and the visuals were pretty dope too.
- Even though you are primarily an artist, do you aim to be -or- are you already a jack of all trades? (i.e producing, singing, songwriting for others, engineering, etc.)
Yes, I hit the melodies (lol) I’m lowkey a part-time singer. I could record myself if I wanted as well. It’s just the mixing and mastering that I’m not familiar with, but everything else I don’t mind dabbling into.
- What is one thing you would like to contribute or change within the music industry that would help you or others as a creator?
Bring back artist development.
What’s Next?
- What are your goals as a creative in the next 3-5 years?
-
Becoming a household name
-
Keep pushing out music
-
& keep putting up numbers
- Where can we keep up with you?
