Armored Truck Falls On Highway In Atlanta With $175,000 Spilling; Police Trying To Go After and Charge People Who Picked Up Money By Looking Up License Plates [VIDEO]
Seeing money on the highway is a rare blessing. That was the case as an armored truck fell on the side of I-285 on the north side of Atlanta, per WVTR. The armored truck company says that $175,000 spilled yesterday.
Fifteen cars supposedly stopped to pick up the thousands of dollars. Police are now doing everything they can to get the money returned. They’re looking up license plate numbers of the car owners who took some of it. In addition, they will be looking at videos posted on social media.
“We have plenty of social media video, some of which seems to have tag numbers, to follow up on, but we really want people to come in, turn in the money and go on about their life without worrying about when the police are coming to find them,” said Sgt. Robert Parsons of the Dunwoody Police Department.
One man turned in $2,600 as Dunwoody Police Department posted a photo of him with officers on their Facebook page. While many may call him foolish for turning the money in, he could’ve been worried about getting charged. Police say people who don’t turn the money in will face theft of lost or mislaid property which could be a felony or misdemeanor.
