While not mentioned as often as basketball and the NBA, football and the NFL also go hand-in-hand with the hip hop culture. Many of the biggest rappers in the game own at least one Madden video game and NFL players often associate with hip hop artists. Even the most-popular hip hop-oriented television program, BET’s “The Game” is football-themed and displays “the life.”
Hip hop has often been a part of the Super Bowl, the championship game for the NFL. Last year, Nicki Minaj was a part of the halftime show with Madonna. This year, Beyoncé will be taking the reigns at the halftime performance. The new face of Pepsi, Beyoncé is still considered the first lady of hip hop even five years after the end of Jay-Z’s run as head of Def Jam.
The Super Bowl of 2013 is right around the corner and the commercials are beginning to dominate commercial time on television. Getting into the spirit, Beyoncé has released a new photo of herself dressed as a referee. Despite becoming both a wife and a mother, Beyoncé has remained one of the biggest sex symbols in hip hop culture and a new ad has also been made for her upcoming Super Bowl performance.
