Billionaire Technology Investor Robert F. Smith Says He Will Pay Off Morehouse Class of 2019’s Student Loan Debt During Their Graduation [VIDEO]

Morehouse graduated 400 students with billionaire technology investor Robert F. Smith receiving an honorary doctorate as well. When he was speaking, he also made the shocking announcement that he’d be wiping out the class of 2019’s student loan debt as a result of his family providing a grant.

In addition to eliminating the debt, Smith is donating $1.5 million to the school. The graduating students gave a huge applause as they couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Some debts ranged from $70-90,000.

“You want to own it, you want to drive it, and you want to pick up as many people as you can along the way,” said Smith during his commencement speech. (Via Atlanta Journal-Constitution.) “I’m putting some fuel into your bus. I’m counting on you to load up that bus.”

The students’ day was one to remember as actress Angela Bassett spoke at the graduation and received an honorary doctorate as well. Salute to Mr. Smith on changing these young men’s lives as they can focus on their careers and not worry about that massive student loan debt hovering over their heads.
