Redefining not only North Carolina hip hop, but the overall hip hop scene is Chox-Mak, who happens to be a representative of Jacksonville, North Carolina. A city primarily known for being the home of Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville has a growing hip hop scene. At the forefront of the Jacksonville hip hop scene is Chox-Mak.
Chox-Mak has several mixtape releases under his belt and is currently preparing to release his latest mixtape, Death by Design, with DJ YRS Jerzy. Hip hop is said to be on the decline by most longtime fans. Many are disappointed with the acceptance of “swag” over lyrics, but fans are catching onto Chox-Mak because he has both “swag” and lyrics.
J. Cole’s success may have cast a major spotlight on both North and South Carolina’s hip hop scenes, but the talent stands on its own. Chox-Mak is one of the most-gifted up-and-coming rappers in the game. Earlier this year, Chox-Mak teamed up with United Kingdom producer, Bunty Beats, for a joint project.
