DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: DMX – “Party Up”

Right now, it really feels like it is 1999 again with all the new music from DMX, Jay-Z, and Ja Rule. The year is 2013, but a lot of people would be lying if they heard DMX’s classic track “Party Up” and they didn’t start jamming to it. This track right here is still the joint.
“Party Up” was the third and final single off DMX’s third album, … And There Was X, which was released in 2000. This track is one of the defining DMX hardcore singles, but it went pop. VH1 considers the track one of the top 100 tracks of the 2000s and it was used on many sitcoms, including “Malcom in the Middle.”
Hard to believe it’s already been thirteen years since “Party Up” was released. This week, we decided to take it back when DMX was the man. That hook man, everybody used to walk around saying that a lot, but the line of the track is “that’s why you laying on yo back lookin’ at the roof of the church/preacher tellin you the truth and it hurts.
