DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Ginuwine – “Pony”

GinuwineIn the late 1990s and the early 2000s, Timbaland made a place for himself with his distinctive sound. This sound was called the Timbaland sound and what coincided with this was Ginuwine becoming one of the biggest singers in the game. These two came up together in 1996 with “Pony.”

“Pony” was the lead single off Ginuwine’s debut album, Ginuwine… The Bachelor, which debuted on October 8, 1996. Before this, Ginuwine gave fans the late summer to get in tune with his music. The single was co-written by Static Major, who later rose to fame in 2008 on Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop,” coinciding with his death.

But, before all of this, there was Ginuwine and “Pony,” which continued the “bump-n-grind” era of R&B. This time in history was dominated by R. Kelly, but Ginuwine made his own place in the game. Because of this, Hip Hop Vibe took it back to 1996 with Ginuwine for the Wednesday Throwback.
