Before Jay-Z settled into family life with Beyonce and Blue Ivy, he was one of the biggest players in the game. Early Jay-Z, which most consider 1996-2001 portrayed the life of a Mafioso kingpin who had women to choose from. There were a lot of forever single anthems to come from Jay-Z, but this one is a classic.
In 1999, Jay-Z droppedĀ Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter and included the classic single anthem, “Big Pimpin.'” At the time, there weren’t any New York rappers of notoriety collaborating with Southern artists. Jay-Z changed all of this when he featured Bun B and Pimp C from UGK on the record.
Jay-Z dropped “Big Pimpin'” during the summer of 2000 and it has gone on to be the anthem for guys choosing the single life. The years since “Big Pimpin'” came out have been kind to Jay-Z, but not in regards to the song, because there is a six year-long lawsuit over the sample. But, the song itself performed well on the charts, even though Jay-Z no longer co-signs the lyrics of the track.
