Impossible is not a word that anyone should use, especially when it comes to accomplishing inner greatness. Everyone is given multiple talents and passions and it’s up to them how they use it. Those who do receive a lifetime of praise and those who don’t live with a lifetime of regrets.

When it comes to defying the odds, no one did it like Michael Jordan. It’s almost as if he lived for people to say that he can’t just so he could prove them wrong. Greatness and Michael Jordan are two words that go hand-in-hand and he showed this just recently.

Since retiring from the NBA, Michael Jordan has transitioned into being a successful businessman. However, there is one business he has had trouble conquering, the business of the NBA. As a player, he dominated, but his struggles with the Charlotte Bobcats were well-documented.

Living in Charlotte for the past five years, firsthand people will learn that the city is passionate about basketball, just not the Bobcats and there is a reason for it. From 1988 through 2002, the Charlotte Hornets represented the Queen City in the NBA and they were a relatively good team. But, they were relocated to New Orleans and two years later, the Bobcats began playing and had little to no success, even with Michael Jordan buying the team.

Even the most-optimistic person would tell anyone that it wasn’t logical, let alone possible, that there would ever be a Charlotte Hornets in the NBA ever again. By 2012, most Charlotte NBA fans accepted the Bobcats were the worst team in league history, that the Hornets belonged to New Orleans, and Michael Jordan was not a good executive. But, Michael Jordan is improving as a basketball executive, just as he did as a player.

Trusting in his business team, Michael Jordan pulled off the impossible at the end of last month when he completed the transition of turning the Charlotte Bobcats into the Charlotte Hornets. It was a big move for the Charlotte NBA franchise, but even bigger was the deal worked out to return the 1988-2002 history to the team, along with the name, merging the Bobcats 2004-2014 franchise history. This just shows how Michael Jordan defies the odds, regardless of what side of basketball or life he is on.

In light of the NBA Finals going on right now, with the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs battling it out, it made sense to tie the NBA into the Wednesday Throwback. Plus, living in Charlotte, it is impossible to not hear about the Hornets and this is now proof to those who ever told me about it that I was listening. A few months ago, R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” was featured as the Wednesday Throwback and it was mentioned that it was for theĀ Space Jam soundtrack starring Michael Jordan.

But, with so much negativity in the world, Hip Hop Vibe decided to feature it again, just with Michael Jordan’s iconic career being featured. Also, with Hip Hop Vibe being North Carolina-based, there had to be a nod to the Charlotte Hornets, as most believed this franchise would never return to Charlotte.
